Sergio has been imprisoned in the Batán prison for some time and today he is integrated into our cooperative space. Along with a small group of prisoners, he works in the laboratory, where seedlings are prepared, which will later be placed in the greenhouse that Liberté owns on the property destined for the organic garden.
Sergio is grateful for the daily construction of this space, which gives prisoners the opportunity to recover rights that should never have been lost despite their prison status.
The laboratory is located in the historic sector of Liberté, exactly in the so-called medium security area, from where the current situation was conceived and has the support and technical guidance of INTA.
Sergio explains to us that he arrived at the place through a protocol where the prisoner, due to the fact of being an offender, has the right to avail himself of that measure with the benefit that no part will be made for the infraction he has committed and that he could be turned over to the judged in the case of not accepting it.
A protocol that consists of carrying out community tasks or repair tasks on the infraction that was committed for ninety days and in the case of not committing any other infraction in that period of time, the possibility of a party falls for the reason that started this.
Sergio fulfilled the ninety days of tasks in Liberté where he was doing work in the laboratory and decided to stay to carry out the tasks, no longer as a protocol, but as one more member of the workforce.
He tells us that he already had previous experience in this task when he took the course in this specialty and therefore, and his good behavior, he is in charge of this section.
Today Sergio has nothing but words of gratitude to Liberté, he says that it changed his life and he sees the same thing reflected in many of his colleagues who enjoy the space, giving himself an unusual camaraderie so far in his eyes, acknowledging that this has done the place, the environment that is generated and the will put by each of the components.
He feels that his task is gratifying for many reasons, because he has to give back much of what was given to him, such as trust, he feels that there is support to carry out the task, that when they go through the judicial branch or other sectors linked in some way way to prison activities, he is very pleased to have to explain, show, the daily task in the sector that he shares with other colleagues.
Final appointment that this space changed the lives of many for the better and is a message for those on the outside who only think that prison is all bad, here it is shown that it is not like that that it can be changed when it is in one's will .
