What is the Detained Persons Collective?
The Detained Persons Collective is a mutual aid network that brings together people in prison, their families, released individuals, human rights colleagues, and organizations. Coordinated by Claudio Lugo, it is a space where those going through incarceration support each other: sharing writings, contacts, and tools to assert their rights, and maintaining a collective voice against confinement.
The Liberté Cooperative agreed with the Collective that they will lead the Human Team of the Legal Guidance Area of Juliana: a tool designed for the incarcerated population must be led by those who know the prison from the inside and through daily support.
What does Juliana's Legal Guidance do?
A tool to navigate prison and its procedures more effectively
Juliana guides —not advises—: she shows you the way and always refers you to your official defender or to your private lawyer. This is what she already does or is about to do:
Calculate your institutes
When are temporary leaves, parole, or supervised freedom generally granted to you, depending on your sentence, your detention, and the crime.
Written in their own right
Templates to submit requests yourself, starting with temporary leave requests, ready to fill out and submit.
Useful contacts
Phones and emails of public defenders, parole boards, enforcement courts, and penal units, as well as visiting hours for each prison —by province and city—.
Guidance on rights and procedures
What you're entitled to, how to request it, and where to go: rights during confinement, procedures, steps, and deadlines, explained in plain language.
Your certificates and your career path

Juliana responds in the language you write to her, 24 hours a day, with no queues or appointments.
We build this together, everyone.
Before launching the service, the team tests it with real cases and provides what is missing. Each collaborator:
Test the calculator and the writings with real (anonymized) cases and let me know if something doesn't add up.
Provides contacts, phone numbers, and visiting hours that Juliana does not yet have — always including province and city.
