The Universidad Liberté, jointly with the Equipo de Investigación Aprendizaje y Desarrollo Organizacional (IRICE-CONICET), launches «Laboratorio de Saberes — La cárcel como práctica de la libertad»: a nine-session monthly dialogic cycle open to the entire community. It begins on Friday, May 30, 2026, at 10 a.m. (Argentina) via Zoom and is 100% subsidized through community support.
«La cárcel como práctica de la libertad»
The cycle proposes a radical shift away from the failed treatment-based approach that structures the contemporary prison system. In its place, it offers a path of existential enablement —individual and collective— oriented toward the recovery of freedom. The premise linking all nine sessions is direct: to build, through dialogue, a new perspective on penitentiary policy, grounded in life, education for freedom, and care, capable of offering public policy a decisive turning point.
What the Laboratorios de Saberes Are
"The laboratorios de saberes are spaces for co-imagining and inventing the world we desire, in community," the program explains. "We hold the conviction that things are not this way by nature — they are this way by circumstance — and they could be as we wish them to be, if we are capable not only of imagining them, but of having the courage to bring them into existence."
For this task, the cycle calls upon what the manifesto calls co-inspiradores: people with the capacity to listen, to embrace difference, to think with their hearts and feel with their minds, in service of the community. The working method, according to the program's presentation document, is dialogue: "Dialogue is the royal road for this adventure of exploring knowledge."
Two Cross-Cutting Axes
The cycle is organized around two axes that run through every session: freedom and restorative and therapeutic justice. On that foundation, seven dimensions are explored throughout the year — dimensions that, from the program's perspective, make up a learning process of existential enablement for living in freedom, understood as community.
The Seven Dimensions of Existential Enablement
- Self-knowledge — the starting point of the process.
- Connection with nature — a bond with the non-human world.
- Physical exercise — inhabiting the body.
- Development of artistic skills — creation as a path of expression.
- Formal or non-formal education — the right to learn in any context.
- Dignified work — work as a horizon, not as punishment.
- Community service — freedom understood as connection, not individualism.
Each of these dimensions will be the focus of one or more sessions throughout the cycle, with invited guests who will engage in public dialogue with participants.
The First Session: Co-Inspiradores de la libertad
The inaugural laboratory is titled «Co-Inspiradores de la libertad» and brings together an international panel of six guests who will dialogue around the premise that anchors the entire cycle:
- Angel Alonso Salas (Mexico)
- Camilo Varela-Quintero (Colombia)
- Claudia López Pineda (Spain)
- Federico Langer (Argentina)
- Marcela Gaete Vergara (Chile)
- Victoria Sarmiento (Colombia)
The session will take place on Friday, May 30, 2026, at 10 a.m. (Argentina), via Zoom. As in every laboratory, attendees will be able to participate through the chat.
"Utopias open the path that is closed — a forest, a hillside. Biotopias design a new landscape. The latter is the essence of this dialogic and collaborative work."
How It Works
The cycle consists of nine synchronous virtual sessions, held monthly on the Zoom platform. Each session brings together invited guests to engage in public dialogue on one of the program's themes. Audience participation takes place through the chat. The cycle is open to the entire community: no prior studies or prior accreditation are required.
