About the alliance
Space inside Unidad Penal N°15 in Batán, co-founded in 2012 by Pampa (Xavier Aguirreal), under the coordination of Juan A. — who had already been working in a section of the prison providing literacy education. Under Juan's leadership, the CPU functioned as a space self-managed by incarcerated people themselves: a pioneering experiment in horizontal organization within the Argentine penitentiary system, where Xavier Aguirreal taught the first self-managed computer course. In 2014, Pampa left the CPU to found Liberté, taking the idea of self-management into a new productive and economic format. A few years later, Juan A. regained his freedom and also moved on from the CPU. From that point on, the CPU became a space managed more directly by the prison's cultural affairs department, gradually losing the original self-managed character that had distinguished it in its early years.
