From Horror to Hope

We want to begin by thanking Sofía Agudo Lutjens for her valuable contribution in writing about our Liberté project. Her work faithfully reflects our daily effort to transform lives and promote the social integration of people deprived of their liberty.

History and Foundation

Since its founding in 2014, Liberté has worked to socially integrate people deprived of their liberty in the Unidad Penal 15 of Batán, Argentina, offering opportunities for personal and academic development.

The work of Sofía Agudo Lutjens, titled "Cooperativa Liberté: from horror to hope," explores how Liberté, a self-managed cooperative, has transformed lives in the Batán prison.

Summary of Sofía Agudo Lutjens’ Work

Through restorative practices and self-management, Liberté has created an environment of dignity and hope. It highlights the Victims Support Fund, which offers financial support to crime victims, demonstrating our commitment to restorative justice.

Growth and Diversification

Liberté started with only two participants and has grown significantly, integrating 200 people and diversifying into productive activities such as horticulture, leather goods, and organic food production.

Our educational offer includes a Diploma in Social Integration and workshops in various penitentiary units, providing knowledge in cooperativism and other key areas.

Education and Training

Liberté has been recognized by various institutions for its contribution to restorative justice and social integration, notably reducing rates of criminal recidivism.
