On the afternoon of last Wednesday, Liberté's first football team played another match on the big field at the Unidad Penal N°15 de Batán (Penal Unit N°15, in Batán), part of the matches our community holds with the different blocks of the unit.
This time the match was against Pabellón 14. The game started evenly, with no clear chances in the first minutes, and later there were goals on both sides. The result stayed on the field.
Respect and cordiality above the result
When the match ended, the members of both teams greeted each other as a sign of mutual respect, setting an example of good coexistence through sport — which is also why all twenty-two players posed together for the photo.
Liberté: community, training, and future
The team representing our institution is part of a sports training project run by Liberté, a community and social collective that also manages a cooperative. This project has been at work for more than a year and is officially recognized in cultural and educational settings of the Servicio Penitenciario Bonaerense (SPB).
At Liberté, sport, education, culture, and work are understood as fundamental tools and keys so that people who are today in a situation of imprisonment can, once they walk through the gates, hold their heads high on the social front, from humility and from a mental and spiritual change.
Those who reach out from beyond the walls
Special value is placed on the gesture of people who, from outside the walls and with no interest of their own, collaborate with Liberté's football project. With great effort, they travel to Unidad 15 to provide technical training and contribute essential items to carry out this work, such as sports gear. Their commitment, without receiving any compensation, strengthens the training work sustained day after day.
