An artificial intelligence assistant born inside a prison, more than a year and a half before ChatGPT existed. It started doing just one thing, but well: taking orders from Liberté's warehouse via WhatsApp.

The story, in brief
From the warehouse to everyday tasks
On June 29, 2020, Liberté's warehouse within Penitentiary Unit No. 15 in Batán was launched: goods at better prices, electronic payment, managed by people in prison. To sustain the daily delivery, Liberté launched Juliana, its "virtual secretary": by February 26, 2021, she was already taking orders via WhatsApp every day.
It was a small tool, designed to solve a specific everyday problem. But it was born more than a year and a half before ChatGPT existed —and inside a prison—. Over the years, it grew to become the artificial intelligence assistant that today serves on the Liberté website.
An artificial intelligence at the service of the community, and curated by people: this is how we understand technology at Liberté.

And there is more on the way: alongside the Liberté management app in Batán, Juliana is adding activity reports and absence notices by ID; and a legal guidance service with her human team. Still in development.
Community Intelligence
It's not just another artificial intelligence.
Juliana is, technically, an artificial intelligence — and she is transparent about it: she is not a person —. But at Liberté we changed one word: for us, AI is Community Intelligence. It is developed by VERUMax, the studio that builds and maintains Liberté's digital platform, and it is curated by the Liberté human team, which decides what it knows, how it says it, and what topics it avoids. The technology is provided by VERUMax; the criteria and voice are from Liberté.
If any answer is not useful, you can mark it and explain why: the team reviews it and keeps improving it. And you can install it on your phone as an app to have it always at hand.
