This is how a member of the group of people in prison who work at our cooperative expressed himself about it.
Experience at Liberté
He worked in the market garden on the premises, where he says he put to use his lifelong knowledge of the field, and is now in the cooperative's sewing workshop, where he is training to develop his skills.
A space for learning and community
He describes it as a calm space where, in addition to working and enjoying good moments, one can also gain knowledge through the various training courses offered daily at Liberté.
Feelings and memories
It makes me happy that here I can wear the kind of clothes from the rural life where I lived, grew up, and always worked — I won't say it's the same, but at least I can go about that way. All things considered, I'm doing quite well and I'm grateful for this opportunity.
I remember my grandmother used to sew for others as a way of making ends meet, and I always kept her company — I'd watch her, and as time went on I started practising some garment sewing myself.
Skills in the workshop
In the sewing workshop I adapted right away after leaving the vegetable garden, and I've already made vests, berets, winter hats, and scarves — and that's how I get by.
